Reawakening is an inspiring new Christian novel by Ervin E. Grant.
Reverend Kit Benson, minister of the First United Methodist Church of a small Midwestern town, has reached a turning point in his life. Kit needs to find a way to open his congregation to experience God in a more direct and personal way; to awaken them to the vitality of the Christian religion as a force that can again sweep the world as it did in the second and third centuries and, indeed, bring the kingdom of God into every human life.
Confronting rumors, close-minded parishioners and a group of religious militia men, Reverend Benson prays for God's guidance in leading his congregation. Guidance comes to Kit in his dreams in the form of a "Messenger" through whom he learns he must admonish his "congregation against being 'culture Christians' who merely accept the mantle of Christianity bequeathed to them by the culture of the time; they must go beyond mere acquiescence in what their fathers and mothers pass on to them- they must think for themselves and re-examine the roots of their faith."
Combining his own research and study into the scriptures and historical Christianity with personal experiences with healing, dreams, and visions, Mr. Grant feels this book will help raise readers' consciousness and open their minds to new ideas.
"Reawakening" is very contemporary and reflects some of the issues facing churches today, such as how to present the Gospel in engaging and inviting ways and how to reawaken the congregation to a deeper communion with God. Mr. Grant takes the reader along as the Reverend Benson struggles with these questions and finally finds the strength to follow the Spirit and discover the catalyst for the awakening of his church and community to their Christian heritage. - I am a wife, mother, and grandmother who finished a PhD at age 70. My daughter and I are interested in geneology, especially our link with Alexander Campbell, a Scot, who was sent from England prior to the Revolutionary War to influence the Cherokees to side with the British. He married a Cherokee woman and their daughter or granddaughter was my grandmother's grandmother...and interesting search! My friend, Sandy, has described me as a lady-like-changer-of-things.
